Pine nuts
Technical guidance for
stone pine cultivation
At the Forestry Hub, we promote projects that activate the bioeconomy from the forest. We foster resilient landscapes through active and innovative forest management. Our work responds to the urgent need to manage Mediterranean forest resources to reduce wildfire risk, restore ecosystem dynamics, and strengthen local economies.
In this context, the stone pine (Pinus pinea) becomes a key species for the productive transformation of dryland areas. Pine nuts are among the most valued and high‑priced nuts on the market. With global demand far exceeding supply, and with many forests ageing or abandoned, the solution lies in scientifically informed, climate‑adapted plantation management. Stone pine offers a real opportunity to diversify agricultural activity in dryland regions and to generate high‑value products under sustainability criteria.
We promote plantations
that transform the territory
At the Forestry Hub, we support stone pine plantations that produce, diversify, and revitalise the territory. We accompany producers, entrepreneurs, and public institutions in establishing this crop using scientific criteria adapted to Mediterranean conditions.
Every well‑placed and well‑managed plantation contributes to a more resilient landscape: reducing wildfire risk, strengthening the agroforestry mosaic, and adding value to areas that are often underused. Our goal is to activate a new pathway for sustainable agricultural production that delivers environmental, economic, and social benefits where they are most needed.
Initial diagnosis
and planning
We help analyse the productive potential of each farm and select the best materials (clones, rootstocks, grafting varieties), considering current and future soil and climate conditions under climate change scenarios.
We propose solutions adapted to territorial conditions and production goals, always with a long‑term vision that ensures the resilience, economic viability, and environmental performance of the plantation.
Plantation establishment
and crop management
We advise from plantation to maturity: grafting, seedling establishment, vegetation control, and forest health monitoring. Our recommendations are based on proven models and knowledge validated through trial networks and experimental plots.
Integrated
pest management
We provide protocols for controlling Leptoglossus occidentalis, using techniques such as mass trapping and identifying optimal treatment periods, reducing the use of chemicals and minimising environmental impact.
We work with a fully integrated management approach and stay up to date on emerging pests and innovative control strategies. We offer validated, context‑adapted solutions to ensure resilient, healthy, and productive plantations.
